Itnuveth is a pagan black metal duo from Spain, whom create fine tuned black metal rhythms, folk melodies, barbaric riffing over frenzied drums. Having been a fan of their debut album, The Way of the Berserker, this new album “Paulsilaur: “Under the Wolf’s Skin” had me very eager and excited and I just could not wait to hear these heathen tunes. Itnuveth is true to their original sound but seem to have a little more focus on melody this time around.
Itnuveth opens up this album slow with a quiet tune and some words in their native tongue. Then the official opening track begins and the quick black metal harmonies go onward. The rhythmic pounce is a mix up of simple power chords with a well timed folk jump and a quicker black metal attack with melodic leads that overpower the riff at times. Very noticeable and quite enjoyable I must say.
Bass riffing is steady with the flow of the guitars. Drumming is programmed but sounds very good. Sometimes the speed of the bass drum is a little too fast for what the guitar riff is doing but it honestly works and gives some of the songs a more powerful feeling. At times like these though I think the riff should match the speed of the double bass, but then I think the overall folk feeling would be thrown off.
Vocal performance is done very well. Having both highs, concentrating on lows and even providing some great clean styled vocals for us as well, but in more of a warrior’s kind of way that is. I fully enjoyed what Itnuveth has done on this album. While they seem to have found the niche they were looking for, I think there is room for improvement but also room to showcase their talents. Itnuveth is talented and I really like them, they remind me of Utstott in many ways. I cannot wait to see what they do on the next album but until then….we have 2 fine albums to enjoy from this band.
