Enoid is a one man black metal act that brings you harsh guitar tones, flat drum production and wretched screams. You want the sound of Norway in the late 80’s and early 90’s? Then here you go. This is your chance to relive the DIY shit sounds of 2 decades ago. But for us who aren’t production elitists and worship fine black metal, no matter how distorted and loud the treble may be, you may find some solace in what you hear on Exile Aux Confins Des Tourments by Enoid. Oh yes, the sounds that emit from my speakers are as wicked as the musical instrumentation and vocals are. It’s all so scarily……good.
Enoid definitely provides one of the darkest and tormented releases in black metal this year. He doesn’t even focus on atmosphere or go on long tangent keyboard driven ambient moments to drive in the depression, this is sinister and fast metal that just so happens to sound like a nightmare. The production helps in this manner, as the distortion and treble levels add to the horror. Everything about this release is good from a writing standpoint, the songs just bleed out naturally and they are very entertaining to experience. Discovering this act for the first time and indulging in the music has been a unique and fun moment for me and if you have not heard of Enoid before then now is the time to do so. Enoid isn’t even a new act as Bornyhake Ormenos has been doing this for 20 years now. Exile Aux Confins Des Tourments is a black metal album you absolutely must listen to.
